'Awareness about Blood Bank and Blood Safety' Symposium by Meenatai Thackeray Blood Bank, Prabodhan Goregaon

Mumbai March 21, 2021 : Meenatai Thackeray Blood Bank organized a Symposium and Panel Discussion regarding 'Awareness about Blood Bank and Blood Safety ' at Ozone activity center , managed by Prabodhan Goregaon, under the guidance of Hon. Subhash Desai - Industry Minister , Govt. Of Maharashtra.

          

The symposium commenced with welcome address by Dr. Aaditya Tare ( Blood Transfusion Officer : Meenatai Thackeray Blood Bank ) . Dr. Tare explained many Technical nuances, aspects of SOPs , of managing the ultra modern Blood bank , through virtual tour of Meenatai Thackeray Blood bank. Indian Red Cross Society norms are followed at this blood bank with high tech facilities such as Component Storage area , Analyzer , Self monitored Bar coded system for accurate reports , PCIB machine etc. This blood bank, inaugurated on 7th November, 2004 by Shivsena chief Shri. Uddhavji Thackeray, is open for all 24 hours of the whole year.

Hon. Subhash Desai - Industry Minister , Govt. Of Maharashtra & Founder of Meenatai Thackeray Blood Bank greeted the audience heartily. In the Key note, he stressed the need of Advanced technology in modern times for "Saving lives through safe Blood." He thanked the advisers as they are essential for safe guarding and accurate information, while managing the blood bank . Blood donation is the most noble as there is no alternative for blood and the donor's identity is not disclosed. Shri. Subhash Desai saluted the staff of Blood bank , who worked consistently in the times of Covid19. He felicitated the eminent doctors with mementos for their guidance and support.

The brain storming among the doctors was the high light of Panel Discussion, with Dr. Ulhas Kulkarni (  Asian Cancer Institute, S L Raheja- Fortis Hospital , Mahalaxmi Nursing home )  Dr. Maya Parihar - Malhotra ( Bombay Hospital ) , Dr. Abhay Vispute ( SRV hospital ) , Dr. Nikhil Datar (  Cloudnine Hospital, Yashada Maternity & Nursing home ) ,  , Dr. Vishal Nivadunge ( Kapadia multi specialty hospital ). Through this panel discussion, solutions were sought for 1. What are the expectations of a Clinician from the blood bank ? 2. Why do the charges of blood products vary from one blood bank to the other ? 3. How is component therapy useful to patients ? 4. How does Pre-analytical play an important role in Transfusion Medicines ? 5. What precautions should be taken by the doctors before and during blood transfusion ? 6. How can reservation help blood bank and a planned surgery / procedure ?  7. What is the importance of stock management in blood bank and how do you manage it ? 8. What are the documents required for NAAC Accreditation for a hospital from blood bank ?
