Apollo Cancer Centres launches "ArtCan" to raise awareness about Breast Cancer

For the first time in the country, artists and survivors join hands to win over cancer

Mumbai, October 31, 2022: The Apollo Cancer Centres (ACC), ranked among the world’s best cancer hospitals, launches – ArtCan, a unique initiative which uses art as a medium to spread awareness on Breast Cancer. Apollo Cancer Centres joined hands with mural artists and survivors to curate art that educates and empowers every woman about the importance of regular self-breast examination.

Through ancient Kerala Mural Arts, 8 steps of self-breast examination bring attention to the issue of breast cancer. Each frame reflects the story of a woman who discovered this condition while performing a self-breast examination, acted on time and defeated cancer. These eight steps have also been depicted in a book format called ‘Chitra Sutra’.

The Mural Arts were unveiled today at Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai. This unique initiative was inaugurated by Mr Santosh Marathe, Regional CEO Western Region at Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd in presence of Chief Guest for the event - Dr Anil D’cruz, Director Oncology, Dr. Sandip Bipte, Senior Consultant - Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, the eminent artists Athira KB and Vishnusreedhar KA, breast cancer experts, and winners.

Sharing his thoughts at the launch of ArtCan campaign, Mr Santosh Marathe, Regional CEO Western Region at Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd, said. “Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer globally and accounts for 25% of all cancer cases in women. So, early detection is the key to better outcomes. In keeping with our vision of being at the forefront of cancer research, we have launched the 'ArtCan' breast cancer awareness campaign. We believe the ancient Kerala mural art is a unique medium to create awareness about breast cancer and the importance of self-breast examination (SBE). It’s a popular belief that life imitates art and hence, art has the power to transcend languages and cultural barriers. Our initiative, ArtCan, will create a silent conversation and leave a deep impression on the audience.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sandip Bipte, Senior Consultant - Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, said, “In 2022, over 20 lakh cases of breast cancer have been witnessed so far. Apollo Cancer Centres has been a leader in oncology and has treated multiple complex cancer cases. Understanding and getting tested for cancer at the right time can make a difference in saving a life. This initiative will convey our message to the masses to be cautious of breast cancer and understand the symptoms to get tested at an early stage.”

Sharing her experience as a cancer winner, Ms Nayana Kanal, said, “Apollo Cancer Centre has been my pillar of strength throughout my journey of winning over cancer. Breast cancer came with stigmas and loads of challenges, but the timely medical treatment and tender loving care of Apollo helped me through. As a survivor myself, in line with this initiative of ArtCan, I encourage women all around India to get regularly tested for breast cancer. The early detection not only increases the chances of survival but can be treated in the best way possible without complications.”

“It was truly fulfilling to work on this one-of-a-kind project, ArtCan. We are glad that Apollo Cancer Centres is using this powerful medium of storytelling through traditional Indian art to disseminate important medical information. Information that can save thousands of lives. At the same time, this effort is shining a spotlight on India's proud artistic heritage and our master artists, which really aligns with our mission,” said Athira KB, mural artist.

Breast Cancer is a result of multiple factors which include environmental and lifestyle changes. In most cases, it is due to anomalies that arise out of the aging process, while in 5-10% of the cases, it is genetically inherited. Early detection is the best protection against breast cancer. Regular self-examination and mammography at regular intervals have proven to be most effective in early diagnosis and in achieving better results in treatment and cure. Apollo Hospitals has been a pioneer in introducing comprehensive screening protocols for the early detection of breast cancer.

World Stroke Day - 29 October 2022

Stroke affects as many as 18 lakh Indians every year - Neurologist Dr. Gaurav Kasundra

Mumbai- World Stroke Day is celebrated on November 29 every year.  It is necessary to create awareness about the disease of paralysis.  Because those with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease are more at risk of stroke.  In recent times, diseases related to lifestyle are increasing.  In this background, it is necessary to create public awareness about this disease.  Immediate treatment is necessary after a stroke.  A patient's life can be saved if treatment is done in the early stages, i.e. during the golden hour.  Giving more information about this, Neurologist Dr. Gaurav Kasundra from Apex group of Hospitals said, "A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is reduced. There are two types of stroke, ischemic stroke (due to blood clotting) and hemorrhagic stroke (due to rupture of blood vessels). A stroke occurs. 1.8 million people suffer from a stroke every year in India, but more information about Due to lack of treatment, 60 to 70 percent of these patients become permanently disabled and some die due to other diseases. After heart disease, stroke is the second major disease and the death rate is increasing every year.  Even in a city with modern amenities like Mumbai, there is no awareness about stroke. In India, about 30 percent of people suffering stroke die and a whopping 60-70 percent people suffer various degrees of disability"

While the numbers of stroke patients continue to rise exponentially, like many other brain diseases, there is still a notable lack of awareness regarding this condition. Timely treatment in stroke will go a long way in improving a patient’s quality of life, and reducing lifelong morbidity and mortality. 20 % of stroke patients in the country are under the age of 40.  Their illnesses range from junk food to smoking, drinking and lack of exercise and stress. Increasing proportion of young people in these patients is a matter of concern added by Neurologist Dr. Gaurav Kasundra from Apex group of Hospitals. Eating a well-balanced diet, avoiding processed foods and sugary drinks, limiting salt, alcohol, smoking, and exercising daily can lower the risk of stroke, the doctors said.

Mumbai: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the world.  Although breast cancer accounts for 25 percent of all types of cancer, there is still a lack of public awareness about this disease.Along with this, lack of self-examination, cultural differences and apathy towards women's health are increasing the incidence of breast cancer in India.  Obesity is emerging as a major cause of breast cancer among women in urban areas.  Obesity among urban women is increasing due to economic prosperity, overeating, high calorie fast food, irregular eating and sleeping habits, smoking & increased alcohol consumption among women. This obesity causes diabetes and high blood pressure at a young age. It is also called 'metabolic syndrome' in medical terms and this obesity is the source of breast cancer. Also, due to career, late childbearing, not breastfeeding the child, and western diet to lose weight are major reasons for inviting the disease have come to the fore. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On this occasion Apex group of Hospitals has organized various seminars and breast cancer screening camps throughout the month. Giving more information about this, Dr. Aditi Agrawal, Breast Oncosurgeon, from Apex group of Hospitals said, "Despite fearing one in 10 women in the city, there is still little awareness among women about breast cancer. Risk factors for developing cancer include lifestyle, one of which is obesity. Obesity is excess body fat.  Obesity is seen in all age groups including children, women and men.  Wrong lifestyle, lack of exercise, sedentary work, wrong eating times, heredity, hormonal, emotional, environmental factors are contributing to obesity. Due to weight gain, extra fat in the body increases and this fat causes swelling of the inner part of the stomach, i.e. 'inflammation'.  The chemicals produced in the body due to this inflammation are harmful to the DNA of the cells and the metabolism of the cells.  The thickness gradually increases over the years.  Therefore, these chemicals are metabolized in the body and the risk of cancer increases. Women who are current smokers and have been smoking for more than 10 years appear to have about a 10 percent higher risk of breast cancer than women who've never smoked "

After menopause, the amount of estrogen produced by the ovaries decreases. But if obesity increases after menopause, this belly fat starts to produce estrogen and increases the risk of breast cancer because of the spoiled lifestyle of women.  If there is a good and balanced lifestyle from childhood, the incidence of cancer is reduced, added by Dr. Aditi Agrawal, Breast Oncosurgeon, from Apex group of Hospitals. Apex Group of Hospitals is a chain of Hospitals managed and run by expert Medical Professionals with experience of 25 years. Currently Apex group of Hospitals manages more than 350+ beds and provides qualitative healthcare services to the people of Mumbai and surrounding areas. Apex Hospitals is located in Borivali, Kandivali & Mulund.

Launch of Aga Hall Estate, a luxurious residential project in the heart of Mumbai city

27 October 2022 Mumbai: The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is pleased to announce the launch of construction and sales at The Aga Hall Estate, an upcoming residential high-rise project in South Mumbai.   The project consists of two tall buildings – a 45-storied tower to house the current residents of the Estate and a 54-storied tower with 373 apartments for sale on the open market. The multi-generational residential complex will include state-of-the-art infrastructure, facilities and finishes and will deliver a superb living experience.

For the AKDN, the project goes far beyond the two high rises, with a key component being to develop a new, multi-specialty, purpose-built Prince Aly Khan Hospital (PAKH), which currently shares the Aga Hall site with its residents.

Princess Zahra Aga Khan commented, “We are delighted that construction has commenced on this very important redevelopment project. Aga Hall Estate has a long history associated with generations of my family and has been at the center of community life for many decades, providing homes, education and health facilities to residents and the broader community of South Mumbai. The aim of this redevelopment is to improve all of the facilities offered at the site and create a very high-quality experience for people living, visiting, or accessing the services at the complex.”

“The intent is for the residential redevelopment to fund a new hospital facility”, says Amin Manekia, Chairman of PAKH. “We have a unique opportunity here to build a hospital that will offer world-class, affordable healthcare, across a range of specializations.”

PAKH has a rich history dating back to 1945, starting out as a 16-bed facility in a rented flat in Dongri. Today, the hospital has transformed into a 150-bed multi-specialty, acute-care facility that serves over 170,000 outpatients and 9,000 in-patients annually.  PAKH played a pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic, treating over 2,300 patients and offering thousands of vaccinations. The new 300-bed PAKH facility will be located on Nesbit Road opposite its current location.

The redeveloped Aga Hall Estate will also include the new Diamond Jubilee School along with several beautiful and tranquil gardens, inspired by the Nishat Baug of Kashmir and designed by Aniket Bhagwat.

The project has recently earned the EDGE Advanced Certification, a globally recognized initiative of the World Bank Group for green buildings - the first and largest AKDN project to achieve this certification. The EDGE Advanced standard is reserved for designs that project energy savings of up to 45%, water savings of up to 50%, and embodied energy (energy used in project creation) savings of up to 32%. Only a limited number of projects in India have received this certification so far. The project is also an IGBC Pre-Certified Platinum-rated building.

“This is an unprecedented opportunity”, says Onno Ruhl, General Manager of the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat. “We are redeveloping a historical site, creating value for generations to come; and we are doing so in a way that is sustainable. Green buildings are essential to how we combat the impact of climate change”, he says.

Ashish Merchant, Co-Chair of the Aga Hall Estate project steering committee (also the Vice Chairman of the Aga Khan Foundation in India) said “This is not just yet another residential high-rise project in India”, says Ashish.  “Aga Hall, as the name suggests, was the home of 1st Aga Khan who moved from Persia to India. It soon became home to the early Ismaili community in India. That sense of history and the current public service it renders with the school and hospital, makes this site unique,” he says.

“The site has been cleared, approvals are in place and construction has commenced”. Our vision is to bring in the AKDN way of working in India and specifically to the real estate industry. This will mean world-class execution leading to the ultimate customer delight, said Vipin Mittal who serves as the CEO of the project and has a long track record of building high-quality projects in Mumbai.  For architect PG Patki, the challenge was to design a modern space that was anchored in its historical narrative. The site design, therefore, incorporates heritage elements such as patterned jalis and uses water and shade as key elements. The 140-year-old Aga Hall Estate gate and fountain have been preserved for reinstallation. The Rera completion date of the project is 2029. The prices start from 3.25 cr. + taxes for 660 sq. ft. up to the 30th floor, 3.99 cr. + taxes for 841 sq. ft. till the 25th floor and for 3 Bhk 1404 sq. ft is 6.6 cr. + taxes till the 20th floor.

The project has already generated a high level of interest from potential buyers in India and internationally.  For press and sales enquiries please contact:

MyGlamm’s experiential beauty store served as the perfect setting for the lively event.

Mumbai, October 19, 2022: India’s largest creator ecosystem, Good Creator Co., co-hosted a fabulous evening to kick off the festivities and unveil a new line of clothing by homegrown brand trueBrowns and actor Chitrangda Singh. The MyGlamm experiential beauty store in Juhu, Mumbai served as a chic setting for the glamorous event on October 18, 2022. Also present were 50 members from The Good Communities comprising of moms, college students and young working professionals invited to attend the launch.

Malini Agarwal, co-founder, Good Creator Co., was the host of the evening. With ‘Live Your Glamm’ as the underlying theme of the event, Malini and Chitrangda discussed how Indian women can create their own sense of glamour. “Brands like MyGlamm and trueBrowns do not stereotype and are giving Indian women the choice to be what they want. That’s what democracy in beauty and fashion means,” said Chitrangada. Speaking on the importance of investing in oneself, the actor said, “We invest so much of our time and emotions in the outside world that we forget to truly invest within ourselves. Come back to yourself.” The live chat between Malini and Chitrangda was the highlight of the event.

To add to the festive spirit, Good Creator Co. organized a #GetReadyWithMe activity, where 50 women from the Good Community participated, and the actor personally styled 10 lucky winners live at the MyGlamm store. Winners were chosen across different communities (Sirona Circles, GlammFam, BabyChakra Momstars and Girl Tribe).

“Our Good Creator co, MyGlamm and GlammFam Collaboration with Chitrangda and trueBrowns was a true testament to how great things happen when good brands come together! Absolutely love the empowering message that trueBrown echoes with heart and hustle for modern Indian women. Glamming up 10 winners from our various communities at MyGlamm, Girl Tribe, Sirona Hygiene, Baby Chakra and Good Creator Co. was exactly the festive note we wanted to usher the holiday season in on. Chitrangda embodies such a strong positive energy and it is a delight to host events with her. Really looking forward to our next collaboration coming soon to Delhi!” said Malini Agarwal about the collaboration.

Commenting on the event, Sukhleen Aneja, CEO, Beauty and FMCG brands, The Good Glamm Group, shared, “It was a pleasure to host such an exciting event at the MyGlamm store. Having built a strong online presence, we are now moving towards expanding our offline community. MyGlamm as a brand has always been about understanding women’s beauty needs and giving them what they want. Since fashion and beauty go hand-in-hand, collaborating with a homegrown fashion brand and a strong woman such as Chitrangada Singh was a win-win opportunity. ”

“It was fantastic to see the energy at the event. Seeing the coming together of innovative fashion brands with MyGlamm & having more than 50 community members from across the Good Communities present made for an extremely vibrant and inspiring evening. Our most active Community members from different walks of life were invited  to interact with Chitrangada and to hear her story and responses to their questions ranging from motherhood, fashion to her personal style. The event left an indelible impression on those present.” commented Naiyya Saggi, Co Founder The Good Glamm Group.

The night concluded with a tour of the 3,000 sq-ft flagship MyGlamm store. Designed by Schoolhouse, a New York-based independent creative agency, it is a one-of-its-kind experiential beauty store in India, featuring dedicated spaces such as The Glamm Zone, a feedback wall, selfie booths, and more.
