·         Two-Day industry conference on Occupational Safety & Health
·         OSH India Safety Awards to recognize and celebrate the excellence, triumphs and innovations of key stakeholders in the occupational safety and health
·
Announcement of the preview edition of OSH Bangladesh in Dhaka from April 18-20, 2019

UBM India today launched the 7th edition of the Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) India (29th- 30th November) safety show at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre,  Mumbai. The show brought together internationally renowned exhibitors, consultants, business experts and key government officials under one common platform, to discuss global best practices and seek solutions to some of the most pressing challenges in the field of workplace safety and health.

The inaugural ceremony of OSH India, 2018 took place in the presence of Key Dignitaries, Mr. Hemant Sapra, President, SAMA; Shri H.R. Jagannath, CEO, Air India Engineering Services Ltd; Mr. Mike Robinson, Chief Executive, British Safety Council; Guest of Honours -  Shri Lalit Gabhane, Director-General, National Safety Council;  Shri Santosh Warrick, CFO & Advisor, MIDC and Shri Sudhakar Prabhu Rathod, Director, DISH, Govt of Maharashtra along with Mr. Pankaj Jain, Group Director, UBM India Pvt. Ltd and Mr. Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, UBM India amidst an august industry gathering.

One of the key announcements made at the inaugural session was that OSH, the global brand, is now extending its wings to the SAARC region by launching a preview show in Dhaka, Bangladesh scheduled for April 18-20, 2019.

India, as compared to most countries in the world, has a demographic advantage with regard to its youth population. Approximately half of India’s 1.2 billion people are under the age of 26, and by 2020, it is forecasted to be the youngest country in the world, with a median age of 29. Recent reports say, 250 million people are set to join India’s workforce by 2030. As a big chunk of the population shifts to the working age group, organizations need to look at the safety and health along with emotional well-being of these employees on priority to retain the best of talent and ensure good productivity.  Companies in manufacturing and allied sectors such as automobile, oil and gas, construction etc. in particular are becoming aware of occupational hazards and are working towards creating a safer working environment.  Governments are emphasizing on developing infrastructure and providing resources centered around workplace safety, coupled with increasing global investments. Although, many organizations have taken the initiative to organize training sessions to create awareness, a concentrated and cohesive strategy is clearly not in place. UBM India’s OSH India is geared to filling this vital gap.

The participation of leading exhibitors from across the industry reaffirmed the need and focus of OSH India as an industry event.  These include industry leaders and key partners such as ‘Innovation Zone Partner’ – Amazon;‘VIP Partner’ – Jayco; ‘Gold Partners’ – Acme Safetywear and Venus Safety; ‘Silver Partner’ – Atlas Protective; ‘Registration Partner’ – Karam; ‘Lanyard Partner’ – Allen Cooper (Superhouse); ‘Visitor Bag & Cafeteria Partner’ – Black & Decker; ‘Badge Partner’ – Uviraj Global; ‘Safe Escape Partner’ – Prolife Autoglo; ‘Confined Space Entry Partner’ – Drager; ‘Technology Partner’ – Tata Communications; ‘Safety Footgear Partner’ – Sketchers; ‘Health Partner’ – Narayana Hospital; ‘Associate Conference Partner’ – Youngwoo; ‘Conference Session Partners’ – Safestart, Godrej Interio and FALL Arrest System & Technologies  amongst others. This year, the show has a presence of over 150 brands and is witnessing international participation from countries such as  USA, China, UK, Sri Lanka, Japan, Korea, Germany, Ireland, Middle East and Malaysia.

Speaking at the inauguration of OSH India 2018, Mr. Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, UBM India said,Workers represent almost half the population and are the major contributors to the social and economic development of the world today. Taking care of health, favorable working conditions, social and emotional well being of employees should be on priority to retain the best of talent and ensure good productivity. Despite a greater focus on occupational safety and health by organizations and Government, there is still inadequate education at various levels and public awareness. OSH India 2018, addresses the pressing need for raising OSH awareness and standards by providing tangible solutions to organizations to meet and  network with suppliers and service providers from across the world  that will showcase their innovations and knowledge amidst a vastly untapped Indian market. With the Indian Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) industry  expected to grow to over USD 1.5 billion by 2020, the conference on the sidelines of the expo will host discussions touching upon the OSH best practices in MRO in civil aviation & Ergonomics for the first time, along with a series of sessions, panel discussions and workshops on Day 1, something our visitors and delegates are looking forward to.”

A two –day power packed OSH industry conference will talk on global best practices. Apart from OSH best practices in MRO in civil aviation & Ergonomics, key sessions and panel discussions on DAY 1  of the conference included: ‘The Role and Need for Accreditation in HSE’; ‘The Future of Work & Risk: An update on ISO45001 by Mike Robinson, Chief Executive, British Safety Council’, ‘Communication to ensure Safety, Efficiency & Productivity’ and ‘Reducing Error and Influencing Behaviour’; ‘Implementing Laws and legislations to Enforce Industrial Safety, Worker Safety and Industrial Hygiene: Key Responsibilities and Challenges’; ‘Best Safety Practices in Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul of Aviation Equipment’ and a Presentation on ‘Fall Arrest Systems and Technologies’.

Day 2 will see a Power Talk on ‘The Human Side of Safety’; Workshops on ‘Occupational Safety and Health: The Role of Indian Standards’ and ‘Practical Safety Training Centre  at Construction Sites’; Panel discussions on ‘Best Practices in Ergonomics and Occupational Health to Safeguard Workers & Improve Organisational Efficiency’ and ‘Redefining Occupational Health and Fire Safety Metrics While Working at Hazardous Places, specially high rise buildings, & While Using Hazardous Substances & Chemicals’; Sessions on – ‘Fix the Tail to Propel Procurement: Attacking the Tail Spend Problem in B2B’; ‘Safety on Rent’ as an Industry Best Practice for Managing Plant shutdowns/Turnarounds Safely’; ‘Improving Business Profitability Through Occupational Health and Safety’; a Partner session on ‘Enterprise Safety: Technology Adoption and Challenges’. The conference is being attended by industry experts from across the country and leading International organizations.

OSH India 2018 will also witness the ‘OSH India Awards 2018’ which is open to Indian operating businesses, organizations, alliances and individuals in the public or private sector with a workplace health and safety initiative. This year, OSH Awards received a total of 120 nominations from across industry verticals that include construction, pharma, chemicals, FMCG, BPO, Banking, refineries, oil & gas, automobiles, logistics & transport, power, SMEs, Agro, Healthcare, food, iron & steel, IT, Rubber industry and more. These Awards have been instrumental in building competitiveness among applicants, in encouraging innovation and have been able to promote and establish thought leadership within the Occupational Safety and Health industry in India. agreement which was signed between the two Universities sets out the key administrative
arrangements for the NMIMS - UNSW Engineering Program.

Mr Tony Huber, Australian Consulate General, who was present during the signing of the agreement
briefed the delegates on India-Australia relationship and how education has become the leader in the
global scenario.

Laurie Pearcey, Pro Vice-Chancellor International, UNSW gave an overview of the University. He

one of the youngest university leaders internationally, mentioned that UNSW has 21,000 international
students. The last three years has seen the number of students from India rise from merely 300 to 1200
at UNSW.
Airing his views on the agreement signed, Laurie said that UNSW while engaging with other
Universities worldwide, help in expanding their pathways. He added “the agreement will help
NMIMS students to interact with counterparts at global level, which will encourage them to develop a
diverse perspective and thus enrich their experiences. As students are offered more choice, flexibility
in accessing education, this program will add a lot of value.”

Dr. Rajan Saxena, Vice Chancellor, SVKM’s NMIMS said that the strengths of NMIMS and UNSW

this occasion. He explained how the institution has been growing, branching into newer spheres of

NMIMS is rated among the first 15 institutions for higher education in the country. He also stressed
on the importance of creating a sound network of educational experts, as it will play a significant role
in the future.

This agreement is a vital step towards ensuring highest quality education. It will make international
education accessible and affordable to NMIMS students, they will be awarded an International
Engineering Degree from UNSW, followed by Internship opportunities and placement in Australia.
Thus it will give them global exposure and help in understanding diversity.
Distinguished former Indian diplomat, author and educator Amit Dasgupta, who is the India Country
Director, UNSW, while mentioning that the India Australia relations sees a game changer through

education, said “purpose of education is to bring people closer, exchanging ideas, and if these aspects
are removed, it becomes soulless.”
This Program is based on the principle of "articulation" in recognition of studies undertaken at
NMIMS. Students who have successfully completed two years of a related Engineering course may
apply to enter the UNSW’s Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Computer Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering.
The NMIMS - UNSW Program is expected to involve students studying a total of 4 semesters at and a
minimum of six terms (two academic years) at UNSW, subject to them satisfying progression
requirements at all stages. Students may commence their studies at UNSW in the T1, 3rd year of
study of the Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science program.

During a panel discussion held after the signing of the agreement on ‘Future of Employability’, Dr.
Sharad Mhaiskar, Pro Vice Chancellor, NMIMS said that teaching students to learn and unlearn is
important and that this process has to be carried out for several years. He also stressed on the fact that
faculty development is the biggest challenge faced by the sector.

Speaking on the announcement of the 12th edition of the IFSEC India Show, Mr. Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, UBM India said, “The South Asia region, which the IFSEC India Expo brings within its radar, is a vulnerable as well as a progressive zone with ongoing threats to homeland security, rising urbanisation, proliferating crimes, and low people-to-police ratio being some of the most significant factors. The Government of India recognises this vulnerability and has introduced strict regulations and guidelines that promote the use of security and surveillance in the country -- the security of children within school premises, and the growing need for women’s safety being noteworthy instances. Besides, in a bid to make the country truly modern and secure, it has till date invested around ₹ 48,000 crores for its Smart City initiative that aims to create at least 100 smart cities in India. Owing to these factors, it comes as no surprise that the electronic security market in India is expected to witness a tremendous growth with a projected CAGR of nearly 13 per cent over the next decade.”
“IFSEC India 2018 aims to act as a catalyst for the progress and vision of this proliferating industry, as it provides a platform for industry players to collectively ideate, innovate, spot trends and enable the shift in India’s security paradigm from a defensive approach to a monitoring and responsive one,” he further added.

Significantly, in an industry where up gradation of technology is the very key to surviving competition, the IFSEC India Expo provides high-impact, informative demos and a wealth of opportunities for the visitors to network and learn about new technologies, industry best practices and trends, challenges, market insights and discover the best solutions to keep their business and clients secured. One of the novel ways by which the expo this year is encouraging this vital interaction between key exhibitors with cutting edge innovations to offer and big ticket buyers is through the creation of the Regalia Lounge, an exclusive, private 5 star lounge, meant  solely for one-on-one interactions and high octane business on a ‘By Invitation Only’ basis.
With security in India continuing to be an onerous task, IFSEC India 2018 has decided to proactively decipher relevant insights gained in the global security market as well as latest technology such as aerial vehicles and drones by conducting a two day conference with the theme ‘Unraveling the Evolution in Security Tech alongside the exhibition. The conference will witness the presence and participation of eminent industry personalities including Shri D.R. Karthikeyan, Chairman, Assocham Homeland Security Council; Capt. Queer talks: Mirroring struggles of the LGBTQ community

Actor Ashish Sharma, known for his varied roles on the small screen had recently invited Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip, better known as the No. 1 transgender millionaire in Asia to Mumbai for the signing of the deal of a global release of his latest movie based on the transgender community called 'Khejdi'.

In conversation with us, the duo shared their thoughts on the film, the LGBTQ community and how Khejdi and Anne's own journey are interlinked.
Based on the short story Sanjha, Khejdi is loosely a true story of a transgender under Ashish's own home production which he recently launched along with actor wife Archana Sharma called Rachayita Films Pvt Ltd.

Sharma says that the seeds of the film were planted in him when he had read the short story a few years back. "The story left a few questions inside me and I wanted to ask the same questions to the world." The actor further elaborates that everyone has a place in society, even those born in a certain way. "The question is not about controversy, but rather mirroring harsh reality that we wanted to bring forth," he explains. Ashish adds that the whole experience from ideation to enacting the part on screen was a challenging but enjoyable experience for him. While transforming physically from having a muscular physique to a more feminine one took him three months, the psychological transformation was what took him to his breaking points at times, he opines.

As for her opinion on Khejdi, Anne says that she found the film remarkable. The differences of the film from others, she felt was the way it connected dots and the way it promoted lesser-known artists who have all done a stellar job. But most of all, Anne feels the movie excels in the sense that it gradually educated people to understand the development of each, character including Ashish.”

Voicing his views on the LGBTQ community that Ashish has sought to portray in Khejdi, the actor says that both India and the world have a lot to cover with respect to the community. He feels that foremost the community needs to 'embrace their own identity' and stop categorising themselves. The society, according to Ashish, needs to accept individuals as they are, and stop labelling them. Respect and acceptance are the two keywords, he ponders. It is this acceptance and respect that needs to be of foremost importance even within the community, Anne opines. She elaborates that there is a sense of discord and discrimination even within the community because of a marked lack in education that sensitises people. "In the remote areas, the community, without education or less with education finds it hard to accept anyone who is different from them," she explains, highlighting the need for education.

Anne's own journey towards becoming the richest transgender in Asia started when she was a young boy. Anne confesses that while other children might have wanted to be a doctor or teacher, she just wanted to be a millionaire. This is what helped her is seeing the doors of opportunity much before others had even gotten whiff of it and it helped her lead JKN Global Media to be in Thailand Stock Market in the year 2017 successfully.
Commenting on how it might be difficult for youngsters grappling with their gender identity, Anne confesses that introspection is of paramount importance and once one feels ready they should seek the counsel of elders and the wiser so that they do not live in confusion.
“Speak frankly to their parents, who you are and what you want. Remember being transgender is not a disease it only needs understanding and empathy.”
Notably, Ashish's reason for calling Anne also harbours on the fact that Anne has just started an organisation called LIFT which works for transgender children’s' education.
Khejdi caters to the same thought and Anne’s own success story is inspiring in many ways to bring credibility to the movie.
As for his film and production house, Ashish says that he is in a great space now and is even ready with his next two scripts. “We will roll early next year and as an actor, I have something very exciting lined up but too early to talk about it. It isn’t for television is all that I can say,” he lets slip
