OYO’s Weddingz.in Wows Report 2019 reveals how India tied the knot this year

Mumbai prefers indoor weddings, while Delhi prefers the outdoors; Goa emerges as the most popular wedding destination
  • Tourist hotspots like Goa, Udaipur, Jaipur, Jim Corbett, Agra, Igatpuri, Lonavala emerged as the most popular wedding destinations of 2019
  • Lucknow witnessed the maximum growth for wedding services, with a whopping 824.90% increase in user base in 2019 as compared to last year

OYO’s Weddingz.in, India’s largest wedding company launched the first edition of Weddingz.in Wows Report 2019, a snapshot of how India tied the knot this year. Data collated between 01 January 2019 and 26 December 2019 reveals that among destination weddings, Goa topped charts as the most sought-after location, followed by other tourist hotspots such as Udaipur, Jaipur, Jim Corbett, Agra, Igatpuri and Lonavala. 
Another interesting finding revealed that Delhi and Mumbai saw the maximum number of weddings take place in 2019. However, the industry observed a huge gap in the kind of events preferred by both the metro cities. On one hand, Delhiites preferred a grand affair with lavish outdoor celebrations at a farmhouse or a lawn, comprising of elaborate rituals, decor and food choices. On the other, Mumbai opted to host simpler and elegant indoor wedding functions, with an inclination towards banquet halls. 
Sharing his insights on wedding trends observed in 2019, Sandeep Lodha, CEO, Weddingz.in said, “This year has been extremely fruitful for the Indian wedding industry. We’ve observed that couples today are demanding a wide range of services to choose from, opting for an amalgamation of traditional and contemporary offerings and embracing new concepts. Destination weddings of the year: Organising weddings at picturesque locations was a trend that took the entire segment by storm, and became a fad amongst new-age couples — working millennials. The most popular wedding destinations included beaches, especially in Goa. Among hilly locations, cities in North India including Shimla, Dehradun and Mussoorie were the most popular choices. For elaborate destination weddings that exhibit old world charm, forts in Udaipur and Jaipur proved to be the premier choice of consumers.
How millennial couples capture moments: Additionally, to add an extra oomph factor to their wedding celebrations, services like photography, videography and make-up emerged as the most demanded by to-be-wed Indian couples. Among photography trends, pre-wedding shoots, candids and traditional shots were on the rise this year.
Bride-in-command: Contrary to traditional times, today the bride is the primary decision-maker with a dominant say over the aesthetic requirements of her wedding, like the decor, stage requirements, etc. Interestingly, pastel theme decor was a hot trend in 2019, with most couples opting for subtle hues instead of the more traditional color schemes. Indian weddings are known to be week-long affairs, with several elaborate pre-wedding functions. In 2019, the traditional Mehendi function topped charts as the most held pre-wedding ceremony, closely followed by Haldi (including Chuda), Sangeet and Cocktail parties. 
Weddingz.in guest lists in 2019: In the past couple of years, smaller and close-knit weddings have been the norm. This year, an average Indian wedding hosted 250 people. Among Weddingz.in executed weddings, the smallest guestlist comprised of only 50 guests, whereas the biggest guestlist saw about 650 people attend an elaborate wedding. 
Interestingly, 1st December, 2019 was the day maximum number of Weddingz.in couples chose to get married.

Maharashtra Welcomes 2020 and the New Decade with Grandeur – ‘Dashak Maharashtrache’

The Government of Maharashtra is all set to bring in the New Decade with grand celebrations across the state capitals on New Year’s Eve. Titled as ‘Dashak Maharashtrache’, the event will mark the success of the State’s continuous pace of development and usher in the new decade of hope and fulfillment of promises. Hosted by Maharashtra Tourism & Government of Maharashtra under the patronage of Hon’ble CM Shri Uddhav Thackeray, the landmark event will put India and the very own capital of Entertainment ‘Mumbai’ on the Global Map as the destination for one of the biggest New Year’s celebrations annually.

The new decade promises to be driven by rapid growth and sustainable development across all sectors in Maharashtra. Some of the recent announcements made by the Maha Vikas Aghadi government led by Thackeray, such as complete farm loan waiver, schemes to raise farm productivity, effective implementation of tribal welfare schemes in remote areas of the State, allocation of Rs 20 crore for the development of Raigad, completion of Coastal Road project and several infrastructural development projects will pave way for enhanced growth in the State.

The celebrations will comprise fireworks, lasers, cultural performances and a son-et-lumiere extravaganza. Corporate leaders such as J. Kumar Infra Projects Limited and Hiranandani group are putting their weight behind the celebration that has been initiated by Wizcraft International Entertainment. On New Year’s Eve, Mumbaikars will witness the grand welcome of Year 2020 and the new Decade with exclusively curated cultural performances which will showcase the state’s festivals, music and folk dances at iconic locations Gateway of India in Mumbai and Futala Lake in Nagpur. Every location will play the video recorded message of the CM across at midnight on large screens.

‘Dashak Maharashtrache’ also kicks off celebrations of 60 years of Maharashtra in 2020.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra and the President of Shiv Sena, Shri Uddhav Thackeray said, “We are glad to celebrate the New Year with the people of Maharashtra and on this special occasion, we promise a new decade of hope, peace and prosperity in the State. We are committed to making significant strides in further developing the state in this decade and continue to work for the welfare of the common people.”
Through this grand event, the Maharashtra Government will also aim to promote the state as a tourist hotspot. An initiative of Wizcraft International Entertainment, ‘Dashak Maharashtrache’ is being supported by the Government of Maharashtra, MTDC, Maharashtra Tourism ministry, the police and municipal corporations.

Pi Lo Shudh Pani Seva Foundation reaches new heights, Served 19,253,961.25 liters of water in 2019


Providing RO Purified water to over 48 million people and eradicating 26,130,436.5 plastic bottles

Pi-Lo Shudh Pani Seva Foundation, a non-profit organization serving water across various regions of the country without taking any monetary support from the Government has achieved a golden milestone this year. The NPO served free RO purified and UV filtered water with zero wastage to millions of people.

 A single water Pi-Lo water ATM treats 500 liters of water on an hourly basis. Their journey in the year 2019 has been commendable, as in a country like India where the population is 1,369 million, Pi-Lo has managed to serve water to around 48,666,694 people across the country. They signed contracts with U.P Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad (UPBTVP) in Mathura and Agra Development Authority (ADA) and Cultural Ministry of Agra to install 20 Pi-Lo water ATMs in Mathura, 12 machines in Agra and 9 machines across 5 tourist monuments in Agra - Fatehpur Sikri.

Moreover, Pi-Lo had actively participated in two mega events of the year and also successfully installed water ATM machines at Kumbh Mela 2019 and 550 th Prakash Purab, Punjab respectively and served free drinking water to one and all.

Mathura, fondly known as Braj Nagari or Krishna Circuit every year invites millions of pilgrims comprising of a mix of urban, rural and foreign visitors. Out of these pilgrims a large percentage is of rural (village) population for whom spending Rs. 20 for a plastic water bottle for one time is not possible. Talking about the development in Mathura how can we forget Agra? The Mughal architecture invites millions of tourists, but the poor water in the region often acts as a concern.

Helping these people by quenching their thirst, Pi-Lo’s smart water ATMs provide RO purified water to people free of cost. Speaking about the development of installation of Pi-Lo water ATM’s Mr. Jatin Ahlawat, Director, Pi-Lo Shudh Pani Seva said, “Until now, 6 Water ATM machines have been
installed at various locations in Mathura and we are planning to install 14 more machines by March 2020. Similarly, in Agra 3 machines have been installed and 9 machines will be installed by first quarter of 2020. We have allocated Rs. 2.30 Cr for the same.”

2019 had been a great year for Pi-Lo, speaking about their achievements so far Mr. Ahlawat said, “Our journey this year has been commendable, serving 5133268 liters of water in Kumbh, Prayagraj from January to March 2019. We are also working with Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Noida Authority, CPCB, and Railway Authority for installing Pi-Lo RO Purified Water ATM Machines. In November, we had installed 25 Pi-Lo Water ATMs to serve free RO drinking water to 3.5 million Pilgrims 24*7.”

Pi-Lo Shudh Pani Seva Foundation intends to expand its services in 2020 by serving more and more people with filtered drinking water at free of cost.

Anthelion Films' Blink a sci-fi short film, India’s first entry into a cult science fiction on international Level


Anthelion Films a reputed production house which deals into several short films, music videos, both in India and the UK. The upcoming film Blink is a sci-fi short film that delves into the life of Neeraj who is unable to understand what is happening in his life. And one day he finds out it’s not him but his Shifting Realities.
Film Summary:

Blink is a short film about shifting realities and what would happen if those realities started colliding into each other. It centers around the protagonist Neeraj who travels between his two worlds. His wife, unable to understand what he is going through, is starting to lose her patience with him. She thinks he is going mad. But the problem isn’t him, it is his shifting realities. Neeraj’s character is played by Aniruddha Joshi and Smriti are played by Vimmy Bhatt. The little girl in the film is Abhiruchi. Directed by Atmaja B & Produced by Akanksha, Blink is 15 mins short science-fi thriller that leaves the viewer shocked and mystified.

The idea behind the story is to explore the possibility of what would happen if we could experience parallel worlds/realities in one lifetime.

Festival Information:

This film is India’s first and one and only entry into a cult science fiction on an international Level. There are hardly any Indian film directors in India who have attempted to make anything in the subject of science fiction. Ours is the first film to make to this stage. The film has been officially selected at the Philip K Dick International Science Fiction Film Festival.

Her first film “Until Death”, received a very good response in India and is currently in distribution in France. Apart from films, she has worked on music videos and commercial videos.

Atmaja Bopardikar is an Indian writer and film director. She has worked on several short films, music videos, both in India and the UK. After finishing her postgraduation in films from the UK, she briefly worked with an advertising agency in Mumbai before starting out as an independent filmmaker. Justice Gavai's remarks can also be seen in the context of the recent controversy of lawyers in Delhi. Justice Gavai, while launching the IPL Cricket League of Lawyers on behalf of Vasantdada Pratishtha Law College and Western India Advocate Association in Mumbai said that the lawyers must also understand their social responsibility. He also said that the lawyers contributed to the freedom struggle movement and even today many big lawyers are working in the political social field. Similarly, new students should also feel social responsibility. In the lawyers' IPL, 82 teams from West India are participating.

On this occasion, Justice Gavai also honoured Prem Daryani, trustee of Radha Kalindas Dariyani Charitable Trust. For showing gratitude towards the soldiers of the country, Prem Dariyani has dedicated six acres of land near the Puna to the Indian Army where the Army La College has been built.

Accepting honour Prem Daryani said, “The army sacrifice for the country and our soldiers serve the country day and night. They do not even care about their life while protecting us and society. We also have a duty towards the soldiers of our country and in honour of them; Army Law Colleges have been started. All the people of the society should together fulfil their duty towards the soldiers of our country ”.

Justice Bhushan Gavai said, "This work of Prem Dariyani is a beautiful message for the society, we should play our responsibility and contribute towards the society".

The judges of Mumbai High Court Justice Ranjit Kamble, Justice Ranjit More, Justice SK Shinde, Justice Sarang Kotwal. Justices MS Karnik and Delhi Lokpal Commission member Justice Dilip Bhosle were present in this function.

India enters Guinness Book with 895 hours, 4 minutes non-stop karaoke singing


India broke China’s record of non-stop karaoke singing for 792 hours, 2 minutes, with 895 hours, 4 minutes non- stop singing, to enter the Guinness Book of world records at a program organised at Little Mall located at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.

The feat was achieved by Virag MadhuMalati and his troupe. Guinness World Record official Adjudicator Rishi Nath, Banarasi Lal Chawla, Father of Indian American astronaut late Kalpana Chawla, Retired principal scientist Premprakash Atreja and others were present on the occasion.

Rishi Nath in his speech, said that he was delighted that India broke China’s record to set a new record of 895 hours, 4 minutes non-stop singing. “My best wishes to Virag MadhuMalati for his future endeavours”.

“I am very delighted to see dedication and patriotism of Virag and his team. Our generation, present generation and future generation will certainly support anyone dreaming to contribute for national progress with such ventures. To shape up our country and boost India’s image in the world is in our hands and as such it is essential to initiate steps in this regard”, Premprakash Atreja said.

Banarasi Lal Chawla, father of Indian American astronaut late Kalpana Chawla said that he was very happy to participate in this function. “I am not keeping well for the last three years but I was enthused by this function. This project is laudable and would certainly give a new direction to people. By high thinking we can lead our country towards progress. This is a new feather in India’s cap and will certainly inspire Indians to achieve dizzy heights not only in singing but also in other fields. This is a proud moment for every Indian”. He urged people to think high and rise above religious politics for the progress of the nation. “Such attitude will benefit one and all”, he added.

Over 800 singers from Delhi, Kerala, Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and other states sang over 9000 songs, delighting music lovers for 38 days. The program was organised at Little World Mall, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai between 15 November and 22 December 2019, to promote social projects including “National Integration”, “Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao”, “Stop Global warming”, “Campus with Helmet”, “Save Water, Save Trees” and “Organ Donation”. A grand finale was held on Sunday.

Four cameras were installed at the venue and observers were deployed to record the movements at every second. Bollywood singers, actors, political heavyweights and prominent personalities from different fields paid visits to witness this musical history.

Virag MadhuMalati has four world records to his credit, which he has dedicated for national integration and eye donation awareness.

AIIB Approves USD145M Irrigation, USD65M Solar Investments in India

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’s (AIIB) Board of Directors has approved a USD145-million loan to India to improve irrigation service delivery and strengthen flood risk management in West Bengal. Earlier this month, AIIB President Jin Liqun also approved a USD65-million 250-megawatt (MW) solar power project in Jodhpur.
West Bengal has 37,660 square kilometers of flood-prone areas out of a total area of 88,752 square kilometers. An analysis of the floods over the last 41 years shows that the eastern state has faced severe floods in all but five years. Another concern is the potential threat of climate change, which may have complex implications on water availability and amplify challenges for 70 percent of the local population dependent on agriculture.

The project, cofinanced with the World Bank, is expected to strengthen the management of the Damodar Valley Command Area irrigation scheme to improve service delivery and efficiency. The funds will also be used to modernize irrigation infrastructure at main, branch, distributary and minor canal levels and invest in structural measures to reduce flooding in the project area.

“This investment will help thousands of farmers get adequate water through scientific water conservation and distribution methods,” said AIIB Vice President and Chief Investment Officer D.J. Pandian. “To support proper irrigation of the affected area, this project will also help build local technical capacity to improve water service delivery and efficient use.”
Meanwhile, as part of ongoing efforts to mobilize private capital for infrastructure, President Jin also approved a USD65-million 250-MW solar power project in Jodhpur, the second largest city in the northwestern Rajasthan state. Hero Future Energies, an independent power producer, is developing the project via its special purpose vehicle Clean Solar Power (Jodhpur) Private Limited. The project will add 250 MW of solar capacity and result in clean energy generation of 616 MWh in 2022.
