Shipping Minister Shri Sonowal visited the Italian Naval Ship ‘Amerigo Vespucci’ & the model village of Italy at the Indira Dock in Mumbai Port

 Shri Sarbananda Sonowal calls upon Italy to collaborate for the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) in Gujarat

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal met the Minister of Enterprises, Govt of Italy, Adolfo Urso, in an effort to deepen the maritime cooperation between the two countries here today. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the docking of Italian Navy School Ship, The Amerigo Vespucci, at the Indira docks in the Mumbai Port. Sonowal also joined Urso to visit the ‘Villagio Italia,’ a model village of Italy to showcase its culture.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal said, “It is a moment of great satisfaction that both the countries, India and Italy, are committed towards deepening the bilateral relationship. Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, the economic cooperation between the two countries has surged as Italy remains among the top trading partners of India, with significant inroads in sectors like trade, infrastructure, automobile and renewable energy. Today, we enjoy the Strategic Partnership as we are working in sectors like cyber security, innovation, defence, outer space, green economy, energy security, and transition, as well as Blue Economy. Given the growing trading relationship, it is important that we must deepen our maritime cooperation to unlock economic wealth for both the nations. We know that Cochin Shipyard Limited is already working with Fincantieri in the field of shipbuilding. We remain committed to look for more possible collaborations and explore opportunities how the rich potential of Blue Economy can be explored to deepen our bilateral maritime relationship.”

Speaking at the inaugural session, the Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also requested for support and collaboration in National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC), which is being built by the MoPSW at Lothal in Gujarat. The Minister highlighted how the maritime expertise as well as the cultural prowess of Italy can add value to this maritime museum.

An Italian Village was created on the wharf facility where the above vessel was berthed for showcasing the best of Italian creativity and craftsmanship. At the Villagi Italia, many exhibitions like ‘We Are Sea’ exhibition, Expo Leonardo, Giotto Experience, The Art of Jago, Sanremo Festival among others will be showcased. Apart from this, the visitors can also visit the Vespucci, dubbed as the ‘world’s most beautiful ship’, which is travelling across the world.

India and Italy share a healthy bonding in Maritime Trade and MbPA handles EXIM cargoes viz. steel, automobiles, project cargo, etc., from/to Italy. An Italian Flag cruise vessel m. v. COSTA SERENA was home ported and during F.Y.2023-24, there were 20 calls of this vessel at MbPA. Mumbai Port Authority is the second oldest Major Port in India. Mumbai Port Authority has completed 151 years of existence.

AMERIGO VESPUCCI is a Tall Ship of the Italian Navy named after the explorer Amerigo Vespucci.  The ship was commissioned during May 1931 with a length of 100.5 metres, beam of 15.56 metres and draft of 7 metres.   The propulsion of the ship includes, 26 sails, 2 Diesel Generator engines and 1 Electrical Propulsion Engine.  The ship can cruise at a speed of 15 knots (28 kmph) and has a complement of 15 Officers, 64 Non-Commissioned Officers, 185 Sailors and 130 Naval Academy Cadets and support staff. As part of the ship’s Word Tour 2023-2025, the ship visited Los Angles in USA, Tokyo in Japan, Darwin in Australia, Singapore and is now at Mumbai after which it shall visit Doha, Abu Dhabi and Jeddah.

The inaugural session on the Space and Blue Economy was also attended by Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairperson, MbPA, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, IAS, Additional Secretary, MoPS&W, Govt. of India, Adesh Titarmare, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, MbPA, ADM.     Mumbai, November 22, 2024: The Association of National Exchanges Members of India Western region (ANMI WIRC), India’s largest pan-India body of over  900 exchange brokers and members, today launched its StockTech Survey 2024-25, highlighting the latest trends and challenges in the stockbroking sector. The findings were unveiled at the flagship StockTech 2024-25 event held at NESCO, Mumbai.

    The survey reveals that a staggering 83.6% of stockbrokers plan to increase their IT budgets in 2024-25, with 41.8% targeting a 20% rise. The focus remains on deploying cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), algorithmic trading, and blockchain to enhance efficiency, scalability, and customer experience.

    34.3% prioritize AI and ML to drive predictive analytics and personalized trading strategies.

    32.9% focus on algorithmic trading, emphasizing precision and automation.

    7.1% embrace blockchain for secure and transparent operations.

    84.8% of respondents cited safety as a critical priority, underscoring the need for robust risk management and cybersecurity strategies.

    Organ Donation By Family Of Brain Dead Man Gives New Life To 2 Persons In Mumbai

    Navi Mumbai, 18 November 2024: Mr Nair, 65-year-old resident of Panvel was rushed to a local hospital after collapsing at his home. Medical investigations revealed that the patient had suffered a haemorrhagic stroke or brain bleed. The medical team at this local hospital informed the family that they could not do anything to improve the condition of the patient. The distraught family was not willing to accept the situation and decided to shift the patient to Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai (AHNM) where advance care facilities were available. 

    Medical investigations at AHNM revealed that the patient was extremely critical & injury to the brain was significant. As no progress was seen in the condition of the patient, the medical team at Apollo Hospitals counselled the family with available options which included shifting the patient to another hospital to provide supportive care as well the option to support the cause of organ donation. 


    Mr Nair’s son said, “As a family we were not ready to accept our father’s condition, we were prepared to do everything that was possible to make him live & be with us. Infact, we were ok even if he stayed in a comatose state with us. However, it began taking an emotional toll on us & we started to dwell on the possibility of donating my father’s organs & that we would be saving the lives of people. Most importantly, our father could continue living through others and this decision brought much comfort to our family. All our family members supported our decision of organ donation & we gave our consent to the Apollo team. Today I feel, just as seniors make their will or even their funeral preparations, one should also consider registering to be an organ donor before their death”


    Organ donation is the need of the hour. As of 2022, an estimated 1.5-2 lakh people need a kidney transplant each year, but only around 10,000 people received a kidney transplant. Additionally, less than 3,000 liver transplants and only 250 heart transplants were performed in 2022, despite 80,000 people requiring a liver transplant and 10,000 needing a heart transplant. Building awareness & encouraging people to become organ donors is crucial to those suffering from end stage disease of organs like kidney, liver & heart.

    In a continued effort to encourage entrepreneurship across the nation, State Bank of India has been empowering every Indian with training and financial assistance. The bank has established 152 Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs), focusing on skill development and training rural youth to help them build their own micro-enterprises. These institutes have successfully trained over 11.5 lakh candidates, with 74% of them establishing self-employment opportunities.     REC Limited receives Adam Smith Awards ASIA 2024 for Best Funding Solution

    Singapore – REC Limited, a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Power and a leading NBFC, has been honored with the Adam Smith Awards ASIA 2024 in the “Best Funding Solution” category.

     

    The award was presented at a ceremony held in Singapore by Ms. Sophie Jackson, Joint Publisher at Treasury Today Group.  Sh. Hemant Kumar, Chief Compliance Officer, and Sh. Koshal Puri, Sr. General Manager (Finance) received the award on behalf of REC.
