“Five Star Villages Scheme” is launched online in Maharashtra Circle

 “Five Star Villages Scheme” is launched online in Maharashtra Circle on 10.09.2020 at 15:00 by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Communications Shri Sanjay Dhotre from Dak Bhavan New Delhi. 

Shri P.K.Bisoi, Secretary (Posts), Shri Vineet Pandey, D.G. (Posts), Shri Alok Sharma, Member (PLI) and other officers of the DOP were present. Shri. H.C. Agrawal, Chief PMG Maharashtra Circle and Regional PMGs from Maharashtra Circle attended the function. During the launch, branch Postmasters of 10 selected villages participated and performed transactions online.

To begin with, in financial year 2020-2021, 50 villages in 10 Rural Districts in Maharashtra Circle viz Akola, Washim, Parbhani, Hingoli, Solapur, Pandharpur, Kolhapur, Sangli, Malegaon and Palghar have been identified for implementation of the scheme. This scheme will be implemented in entire Maharashtra Circle subsequently.

The Scheme will cater the needs of villagers of Rural Districts through branch

offices, which will work as one stop shop for their all postal needs

Various Postal Schemes have been categorised as below :-

1. Savings Bank (SB/RD/TD/MIS or NSC/KVP)

2. Sukanya Samruddhi Account/PPF Account

3. Funded POSA linked IPPB Account

4. Postal Life Insurance/ Rural Postal Life Insurance Policy

5. Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana / Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti

Bima Yojana

As soon as each household of selected village is covered by one of the Postal

Schemes of the above five categories, the village will be awarded One star. Likewise,

if each household of a village is covered by two Postal Schemes of the above five

categories, the village will be rated as two star and so on. When each household of a

village is covered by all five categories of Postal Scheme it will be rated as Five star.


The objective of the Scheme is to create awareness amongst the customers of

the remote villages about various Postal schemes. A focussed approach will be made

to achieve the targets.
