‘Period Friendly World’ Message Marks Menstrual Hygiene Day Women’s Health and Empowerment Highlighted at Tee Foundation Sanitary Pad Bank’s Decade Celebration

*Mumbai:* A special event promoting women’s health, hygiene and dignity was held in Versova on Thursday to mark International Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026. Reinforcing the vision of a ‘Period Friendly World’, the programme also celebrated the successful 10-year journey of the Digital Sanitary Pad Bank initiative.


The event aimed to break the silence and social stigma surrounding menstruation, and encouraged open conversations to eliminate misconceptions and taboos associated with menstrual health.


The decade-long celebration was organised under the leadership of Dr. Bharati Lavekar, former BJP MLA from Versova and Chairperson of the *Tee Foundation*. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lavekar emphasised the need for society to come together in support of women’s health, hygiene and empowerment.


The programme was attended by several eminent personalities, including actress Isha Koppikar, actress Preeti Sapru, actor-producer Shashi Ranjan, gynaecologist Dr. Sejal Ajmera, ITA Awards founder Anu Ranjan, Abhijit Rane former corporator Yogiraj Dabhadkar, and former corporator Ranjana Patil.


Through initiatives such as ‘Walk for a Cause’ and ‘Break the Taboo’, the dignitaries conveyed a strong message: menstruation should not be hidden or treated with shame, but understood and accepted as a natural biological process.


Dr. Lavekar stated that over the last decade, the Digital Sanitary Pad Bank has been providing free sanitary pads to underprivileged women not only across India but also in parts of Africa and other countries. The initiative currently distributes free sanitary pads to girls in 118 schools and provides menstrual hygiene kits in several communities.


Highlighting the recognition received for these efforts, Dr. Lavekar noted that the initiative was honoured with the prestigious ‘First Lady Award’ in 2018, presented by former President shri Ram Nath Kovind ji.


Expressing confidence in the initiative’s future impact, Dr. Lavekar said the decade celebration would serve as an important step toward social transformation by increasing awareness, improving access to menstrual hygiene products, and promoting social acceptance of menstruation.


A large number of women and citizens from different walks of life attended the programme.
