The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the National Standards Body of India under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. BIS's primary activities include Standard Formulation, Certification, Laboratory Testing, Hallmarking,and Systems Certification. The organization is committed to ensuring the highest standards for safe and quality goods, contributing significantly to the nation's well-being.
BIS is set to celebrate its 77th Foundation Day on January 6,2024. This day marks a tribute tothe collective efforts of experts contributing to the development of voluntary technical agreements published as Standards.
As part of the festivities, BIS is organizing a special event on January 6,2024, starting from 10:00 hrs at the Victor Menezes Convention Centre, Indian Institute of Technology B ombay, IIT Area, Powai, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400076.
The Chief Guest of Honour for the event will be Shri Sanjay Goswami, Deputy Director General, Western Regional, BIS. The event will feature various activities, including "Manak Mantranall on Non-Electric Toys as per IS 9873, Skit Plays, and Nukaad Nataks, all designed to underscore the importance of standards and BIS's crucial role in ensuring the safety, reliability,and quality of goods.
ln addition to the event at IIT Bombay, BIS will conduct a Quiz Competition on Science & standards and a Poster Making Competition in the standards club of BIS awareness programs in prominent residential localities. The aim is to educate residents about the importance of BIS Foundation Day, BIS, and its activities. Topics covered will include the role of residents as informed consumers, the BIS Care App, and the Grievance Redressal System.
BIS remains dedicated to contributing to the national economy by ensuring the safety and quality of goods, minimizing health hazards to consumers, and safeguarding the environment.
