Apex Group of Hospitals Doctors & Paramedical staff appeals to quit tobacco on the occasion of World No Tobacco day

Mumbai- 'World No Tobacco Day' is celebrated every year in Mumbai and adjoining cities with great enthusiasm. Various activities are being carried out in government and private hospitals, charitable organizations and schools and colleges in the city on the occasion of Tobacco Day. World No Tobacco Day provides an ideal platform to launch various anti-tobacco campaigns, rallies, marches, and public debates, involving people from all walks of life. Nurses, doctors, Medical students and Paramedical staff of Apex Group of Hospitals today jointly took “Quit Tobacco Abhiyan '' to raise awareness among youth about dangers of tobacco use. Under Quit Tobacco Abhiyan rally was taken out from Borivali railway station which crossed through Borivali Vegetable Market near the station area and returned to the Apex Hospitals, Chandvarkar Road covering around 2.5 km. In this rally more than 200 citizens have taken oath to quit tobacco in this Abhiyan.

Commenting on this occasion, Dr. Tanvi Shah, Director, Apex Group of Hospitals, says,” we tried to make people, especially youth aware of the dangers of tobacco use and encourage them to quit smoking. The theme for World No Tobacco Day 2023 is “We Need Food, Not Tobacco”. “World No Tobacco Day is an important opportunity to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco use. We need to educate people about the health risks of tobacco use. 8 million people are killed by tobacco products every year & 1 million people die annually from exposure to second-hand smoke. It is very important to explain the ill effects of addiction to the citizens who are addicted to tobacco. If you are a smoker or chewing tobacco try to quit.  If you are a non-addict, encourage others to quit.  Citizens who smoke and are addicted to tobacco have a 50 percent higher risk of serious illness and death. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, tobacco use can lead to four major non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic lung disease and diabetes."

Tobacco use and smoking are very harmful to health. Tobacco use poses a serious health risk and often carries a life-threatening illness. Smokers inhale toxic chemicals, which not only damage the airways and lungs but also deprives the body of oxygen, thereby making them more prone to developing pneumonia and other life-threatening respiratory conditions. Cancer is one of them!  Apex Group of Hospitals will carry out various activities in the western suburbs in the next 15 days, added by Dr. Tanvi Shah, Director, Apex Group of Hospitals.
