Mumbai: Garware Club House will be organizing the First GCH SHARAD PAWAR All India FIDE Rapid Rating Open Chess Tournament 2023 on January 7, 2023, at Wankhede Stadium.
“Pleased to announce that one of India's Brightest Women Grand Master (WGM) Soumya Swaminathan is officially participating in tomorrow's 1st GCH SHARAD PAWAR All India FIDE Rapid Rating Open Chess Tournament 2023.
We already have 3 IM's,
One WIM, 3 FM's and many CM's playing this tourney. This is a huge achievement to attract such international talent to our club's event and a matter of great pride for all of us,” said Mohit Chaturvedi, Garware Club House Director and Chairman of the Chess Committee.
Raj K. Purohit, Hon. Vice President, GCH said, “With over 400 entries including 70% children from all over India, this was probably the grandest and the most participated Open chess event in Mumbai in recent history. With Rs.200000 prize money and the prestigious Sharad Pawar Trophy besides 45 other trophies, the tournament attracted entries from not just Maharashtra but all across India. In spite of such a large response, the event was conducted immaculately, thanks to the untiring efforts of Mumbai City District Chess Association and Maharashtra Chess Association and Garware Club Managing Committee members.”
Garware Club House’s President Mr. Sharadd Pawar will inaugurate the tournament at 9 AM. Bharat Singh Chauhan (Chairman of FIDE World Advisory Council and Former National Secretary of All India Chess Federation) and the Maha Chess Association’s managing committee and Maharashtra's two Grandmasters Pravin Thipse and Abhijit Kunte will be attending the ceremony.
