The High Court of Delhi in its decision passed on 20th December,2023 overturned the rejection of promotion of two Jawaharlal Nehru University (‘JNU’) Professors, Dr Purva Yadav and Dr Vinay Kumar Ambedkar while noting that the University had failed to adhere to the procedure prescribed and the guidelines formulated by the University Grants Commission (‘UGC’). The Court observed that the teachers fulfilled the eligibility criteria and the decision taken by JNU was opaque as the rejection of the candidature of the teachers lacked reasons either by the Screening Committee or the Executive Council.
