In alignment with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s clarion call “Startup India, Standup India,” three premier CSIR laboratories—CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) and CSIR- National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL)—are jointly organizing this flagship event from 20th-21st May, 2025 at the NESCO Centre, Goregaon (East), Mumbai, Maharashtra. The Conclave is expected to convene over 800 attendees, including more than 70 CSIR-incubated start-ups, leading industry partners, investors, academic institutions, and representatives from government bodies. Amidst the unparalleled expansion of India’s innovation ecosystem, the CSIR Start-up Conclave will showcase breakthrough innovations in marine robotics, biomanufacturing and environmental engineering. This platform will not only highlight cutting-edge CSIR technologies but also foster collaborations that transform ideas into scalable enterprises.
The two-day event will commence from 20th May, 2025 at 10:00 hrs with registration and the Pre-Inaugural session. Hon’ble Minister of State (I/C) Ministry of Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh as Guest of Honour and Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Devendra Fadnavis as Chief Guest, Maharashtra will grace the event and visit the technology exhibition. “The main objective of the event is to create a platform for discussing the technologies developed by CSIR and how startups can leverage these innovations, as well as to disseminate this information to the wider public. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisioned transforming India into a developed nation by 2047. The role of the startup ecosystem and technology will be crucial in realizing this vision. In this regard, the conclave holds significant importance”, said Professor Sunil Kumar Singh, Director CSIR - National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO) during a curtain raiser event for CSIR Startup Conclave 2025 today.
During the event today, Dr. Ashish Lele, Director of the CSIR–National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR–NCL) said, “This conclave is a major opportunity for all the three laboratories under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The startups participating in the conclave are, in some way or the other, connected with CSIR. These startups will present the technologies they are working on”. He further added “the National Chemical Laboratory had launched India’s first incubator, the Venture Center, in 2006. This Venture Center will also participate in the conclave. This unique incubator is exclusively associated with deep-tech startups in the fields of health technology, medical technology, clean energy, and sustainable industries. So far, the Venture Center has extended support and assistance to more than 1,500 startups. India is currently the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world. This ecosystem is growing at a rate of 15 to 20 percent annually. The Central Government is making every possible effort to encourage and support the growth of these startups. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research is also playing a significant role in supporting these government efforts.”
“We are currently facing numerous environmental challenges, and this makes startups in this field especially important. In line with this, the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI), under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has placed a strong emphasis on water”, said Dr. S. Venkata Mohan, Director of CSIR-NEERI during the event today. He mentioned that the institute is actively working to address the changes occurring in various water-related components and to meet the nation’s evolving needs in this domain. The institute has also developed several technologies related to wastewater treatment, he said. To tackle water-related environmental problems with the support of startups, the institute is focusing on technologies related to water purification, separation of toxic substances from water, and collaboration with startups working in these areas, he added.
The inauguration ceremony will commence with a welcome address by Director, CSIR-NIO, Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh and special remarks by Director, CSIR-NCL, Dr. Ashish Lele; Director, CSIR-NEERI, Dr. S. Venkata Mohan and special address by the Director General, CSIR, Dr. (Mrs.) N. Kalaiselvi. Over the course of two days, technical sessions will explore “Shark Tank: Start-ups Pitch to Funders & Investors,” “Marine Robotics: Innovations for the Blue Economy,” “Marine Biomanufacturing: Opportunities & Challenges,” “Sustainable Interventions in Environmental Science & Engineering” and “Building Scalable Environmental Start-ups: Challenges & Opportunities.” An interactive stakeholder session will feature an address by Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri. Eknath Shinde, and high-level panel discussions will be convened to evolve the start-up ecosystem in alignment with Viksit Bharat. The Valedictory Session on the last day will include addresse by Hon’ble Deputy Chief Ministers of Maharashtra Shri Ajit Pawar as the chief guest. Throughout the Conclave, the exhibition will remain open to students and the public, fostering wider engagement with India’s scientific and entrepreneurial communities.
