Bureau of Indian Standards Celebrates Foundation Day 2025 with Visionary Initiatives

Mumbai, January 6, 2025 – The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India operating under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, celebrated its Foundation Day with grandeur at the Bharat Ratnam Mega CFC, SEEPZ, Andheri East, Mumbai. The event marked another milestone in BIS's ongoing mission to strengthen the nation’s quality ecosystem and contribute to the economy by ensuring the availability of safe, reliable, and high-quality goods, while also promoting environmental sustainability and minimizing consumer health hazards.


The distinguished guests of honor included Hon’ble Dr. Sachin D. Kore, Director of Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, Mumbai; Shri Sanjay Goswami, Deputy Director General (Western Region), BIS; Shri Pinaki Gupta, Scientist-E & Head (Mumbai Branch Office–I), BIS; Smt. Prem Sajani Patanala, Scientist-E & Head (Mumbai Branch Office–II), BIS; Shri Anil Kapri, Scientist-E & Head (Western Regional Laboratory), BIS; Smt. Shraddha Rane, Secretary General, Indian Chemical Council; and Dr. Narendra Digambar Gangal, Vice President of QA, TQM, and Analytical Research at NOCIL Ltd.


During the celebration, Shri Sanjay Goswami highlighted key initiatives undertaken by BIS to promote standardization and engage stakeholders through innovative programs such as Standardization Cells, Manak Manthan, Manak Samvad, Exposure Visits, and Capsule Courses. He also announced India’s upcoming hosting of the IEC meeting, emphasizing BIS’s growing influence in the global standards landscape.


Dr. Sachin Kore shed light on the pivotal role BIS can play in advancing 3D printing and additive manufacturing technologies, particularly in product development and jewelry-making industries. Dr. Narendra Gangal addressed the pressing issue of climate change and underscored BIS’s role in fostering sustainable practices to mitigate its impact.


A special facilitation ceremony recognized the All-India First Licensees for their exemplary efforts in adhering to BIS's stringent quality standards, setting benchmarks for excellence in their respective industries.


As part of the extended celebrations, BIS is organizing a Standard Carnival on January 8, 2025, at the BIS CETTM Complex, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, Mumbai. The event will showcase creative contributions by students, including project-making, poster-making, meme creation, and slogan writing, by installing stalls with displaying various projects on ISI marked products, also celebrating their role in bolstering India’s Quality Ecosystem.


BIS remains committed to driving innovation, quality, and sustainability, ensuring that India continues to set global benchmarks in standardization and consumer safety.
