The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the National Standards Body of India, working under Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Govt. of India. Our main activities are Standard Formulation, Certification, Laboratory Testing, Hallmarking and Management Systems Certification. BIS is contributing to the Quality ecosystem, national economy by ensuring safe, reliable and quality goods, minimizing health hazards to consumers, protecting the environment etc.
Every year on 14th October, Bureau of Indian Standards celebrates World Standards Day, which is a means of paying tribute to the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts who develop the voluntary technical agreements that are published as Domestic and International Standards.
BIS organized Manak Mahotsav on the occasion of World Standards Day on 14th October, 2024 at Bharat Ratnam - Mega CFC, Seepz, Andheri East, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400096. The theme for the above programme was “A Shared Vision for a Better World - Spot light on SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure in the Age of AI ”.
Hon’ble Prof. (Dr.) Dilip Ukey, Vice Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law University. Mumbai, honored the event as the chief guest. He has expressed the need of setting standards for good governance and humanity. Shri. Sanjay Goswami, Deputy Director General, (Western Region) has delivered the welcome address. He highlighted the various initiatives and work done by BIS in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Shri. Satish Kumar, Scientist-G & Head, (Mumbai Branch Office–I) has presented the World Standard Day message. From BIS Shri. Sanjay Vij, Sr. Director & Head, (Mumbai Branch Office–II), Shri. Vijay K Singh, Director (Hallmarking), Shri Alok Singh, Director (MSCOW) and Shri. Manikandan K. Director & Head, (Western Regional Laboratory) graced the event.
Shri. Jignesh Sharda, Sr. Vice President QA, Sustainability and Business Excellence CEAT Limited, Mumbai, Shri. Kapil Modi, Executive Plant Head, Tata Steel, Khopoli, Raigad, and Shri. Ravindra Shinde, Senior Director, Venus Health and Hygiene Ltd, Navi Mumbai, Raigad were the Guest of Honour. They discussed on the Theme and initiatives taken by their organizations, they were also felicitated during the programme.
All India first and Region first Licensees were felicitated during the event. Stakeholders such as licensees, Assaying centers and Standard clubs were also felicitated for their association with BIS for Standard promotion activities.
As part of Manak Mahotsav, BIS also organized Door-to-door campaign with the help of volunteers (Manak Mitra), During their interaction with the Youth, the volunteers informed about functioning of BIS, common household items under BIS mandatory certification and demonstrated BIS website, Know Your Standards feature along with BIS Care App and it’s features.
Quality Walks were organized in Thane and Powai. Open Drawing Competition was conducted in R-City Mall, Ghatkopar and Inorbit Mall, Malad. Interschool Poster Making competition, and Exposure Visit for School and College Students at Nehru Science Museum were also organized during the fortnight preceding the Manak Mahotsav Celebration for creating awareness of quality and standards amongst the public.
Stakeholder meets were organized to bring together different stakeholders on Specific Subject, discuss on standards, BIS activities, Hallmarking Scheme of BIS, Management Certification Scheme.
