Indian calligraphy honours in 18th "Cheongju Jikji" International Calligraphy Binale (Competition) of korea

Calligraphers Achyut Palav, Narayana Bhattathiri, Akshaya Thombre, Rupali Thombare and Shubhangi Gade win Awards

 

Indian calligraphy was honoured in the 18th International Calligraphy Binale(Competition) "Cheongju Jikji" of Korea.  The competition was held at the Korean Art Museum from 23-12-2021 to 28-12-2021. A total of 71 works of art were submitted by 40 calligraphers in different Indian languages in this calligraphy competition. Apart from calligraphers Achyut Palav and Narayan Bhattathiri, the works of Akshay Thombre, Rupali Thombre and Shubhangi Gade have also receivedawards.

 

This competition was based on the theme Peace, Unity, Love.  Especially, Korean paper sent to participating artists to preserve the Korean traditional method, therefore it created enthusiasm between Indian calligraphers.

 

The “Cheongju Jikji” World Calligraphy Competition is not only to introduce the cities of Jikji and Hangul to the world, but also to convey to the new generation the only one heritage of calligraphy of their central region. Calligraphers in many countries presented their arts in their own script.

 

“Cheongju Jikji” has gotten a status of World Heritage and its name is also included in the UNESCO world list. In addition, it is affiliated with ICDH (International Written Heritage Center).
