Preparing for the Second Wave of Covid

To prepare for the coming winter and a possible second wave of Covid in India, AIIMS Rishikesh has decided to install the Hologic Panther system and run the Aptima SARS-CoV-2 assay.

The Hologic Panther system, with over 2000 installations, run more than 5 million tests across the world for Covid every month and the highest number of molecular tests (PRT_PCR, TMA) in the US every day. The Hologic Panther system is a fully automatic system that can run over 1000 tests a day. It is the most sensitive automated platforms globally.

The Hologic Panther system was amongst the first to get Emergency Use Approval by the US FDA for testing both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. It is the only one to offer the collection to result in technology, with no need for transfer from one tube to another, providing safety to the laboratory personnel.

A spokesman for Hemogenomics Pvt. Ltd., Hologic’s partner in India, said that they are proud that the Hologic Panther system is finally available in India. It is in talks with many Governments who want to prepare for the coming winter.  Global demand had delayed availably, but now they have the ability to provide 1-2 Panther systems in India every month. Requiring very little space or modifications, it can start testing in a couple of weeks. Even a few Hologic Panther systems can add the capacity to test hundreds of thousand samples every month.
