Wockhardt Hospital Conducted A Screening Camp for women police staff of Mira Bhayandar, Thane


Wockhardt Hospital, Mira Road, successfully conducted an oncology screening program for women police staff of Mira Bhayandar, Thane in Wockhardt Hospital Mira road. A complete blood count (CBC), Pap smear, Mammography, Gynac   Consultations and an Ultrasound Scan (USG) test was offered to them free of cost. The program is expected to run for about a month wherein more women police staff members will participate to get themselves evaluated. Present on the occasion was Mr. Shantaram Valvi (DYSP Mira Road & Dr. Shashikant Bhosale (DYSP Bhayandar) and Dr. Pankaj Dhamija (Unit Head), from the hospital.

A team of Oncologist & gynaecologists consisting of Prof. (Dr.) Mallika Tewari (Senior
Consultant & Program Lead Surgical Oncology), Dr. Bilsi Mittal (Consultant Obstetrics &
Gynecology), Dr. Mangala Patil (Consultant Obstetrics & Gynaecology) carried out the check-
ups.

Breast cancer and cervical cancer continue to be major public health problems in India as the number of cases is arising at a rapid rate. Similarly, a large number of women also suffer from gynaecological problems such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), uterine fibroids, endometriosis and ovarian cysts. To help women police staff of Mira Road take charge of their health, Wockhardt Hospital came up with a unique and interesting initiative, and conducted an informative oncology screening program. 

Dr Mallika Tewari (Senior Consultant & Program Lead Surgical Oncology, Wockhardt Hospital, Mira Road said, “Women police staff is always on the go as they shoulder the responsibility of ensuring the safety, health and possessions of citizens. Thus, they do not get enough time to take care of themselves and tend to ignore their health problems. It is our duty to help these women police staff members to overcome their health issues, and lead a healthy life. This free oncology screening program will allow in early detection of breast cancer, cervical cancer and gynaecological problems by helping women police staff seek an appropriate treatment, and improve the quality of life.”

The police staff members were also taught how to do a self-breast examination, every month, and informed about the HPV vaccine for cervical cancer, as a correct diagnosis and timely treatment is the key to tackle these major health issues.”

 “Policing is much about helping people, playing a pivotal role in maintaining safety, crime prevention and working towards the welfare of people. While doing so, many police staff members who suffer from major health ailments, fail to seek proper treatment due to the hectic schedules. This move taken by Wockhardt Hospital is welcomed by us with open arms.
