This year’s theme focuses on raising awareness about the rights of Deaf children and fostering a global commitment to the motto: ‘Sign up for Sign Language Rights’.
This week-long initiative aims to engage the public in understanding the importance of ISL through a series of dynamic events. More details are available in the institute’s new website: https//ayjnishd.nic.in launched on 23rd September, 2024 using the ‘Secure, Scalable & Sugamya’ (Accessible) websites ‘S3WaaS’. Attendees can look forward to street plays, ‘nukad-natak’ that raise awareness, competitions, and opportunities for teachers and parents to learn the basics of ISL. By promoting the use of ISL among rehabilitation professionals and the broader community, AYJNISHD (D) is leading efforts to recognize and integrate ISL as a vital component of India’s linguistic diversity.
With a strong focus on inclusivity in education, AYJNISHD (D) is dedicated to building resilient Deaf communities, celebrating Deaf culture, and promoting well-being for individuals with hearing challenges. We invite individuals of all ages to join us in these public events to learn and advocate for ISL. This week observance is a vital part of the government of India’s ongoing efforts to enhance awareness and accessibility of ISL for all citizens. In line with this commitment, this year there are currently 5 centres of AYJNISHD(D) at Mumbai, Secunderabad, Janla, Kolkata and Goa offering the two year Diploma in Teaching Indian Sign Language (DTISL) for adult Deaf individuals, approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India. Join us in advocating for a more inclusive world where every voice can be heard and for more information about the ‘Sign up for Sign Language Rights’ campaign and events.
