Khadi... along with weapons will now become the Brahmastra of India's progress


On 77 Independence day, Chairman KVIC announces many welfare and employment generation intiatives   taken up KVIC                                                                                                                                                                                              Shri Manoj Kumar, Honorable Chairman, Khadi and Village Industries Commission hoisted the tricolour on the occasion of  the 77th Independence Day at Central Office, Mumbai .  He also led the  Tiranga Rally organized  by Khadi and Village Industries Commission at Ville Parle (West) here today. 

 

Addressing the audience, Shri Manoj Kumar, Honorable Chairman, KVIC, emphasized that the flag soaring high in the sky is not merely a piece of cloth, but a symbol of  sacrifice, struggle  and dreams of countless people  who believed in the power of unity and unwavering determination. People  who envisioned an India united by the values of justice, freedom, equality, and brotherhood, crafting the dream of a resplendent India. 

Today, under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the  efforts of their hardship is turning in to reality.

He stated that under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Khadi and Village Industries sector has ignited the flame of nationalism throughout the country with programs like Khadi and Village Industries sector has ignited the flame of nationalism throughout the country with programs like Har Ghar tiranga - 2  and meri maati , mera desh.

 

Speaking about the glorious history of Khadi, he mentioned that from independence to self-reliance, where on one hand Khadi became the pride of the national movement under the leadership of Pujya Bapu, today it stands as the pride of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' under the guidance of the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He opined that like Mahatma Gandhi who used Khadi as a powerful weapon against British rule, our Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, post-2014, has transformed Khadi into a potent and successful weapon for eradicating poverty, empowering artisans, ensuring food security, and uplifting social  status of women, and fighting with unemployment. 

Shri Manoj Kumar affirmed that on 7th August 2023, during the National Handloom Day celebration at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had said, "For those who take pride in themselves, for those who have a campaign for their homeland, Khadi is a garment, but it is not just a garment, it is a weapon and a tool for those who weave the dreams of self-reliant India, who give strength to 'Make in India'." He emphasized that the contribution of Khadi and village industries to India's economic progress will create a significant impact, making Khadi the ultimate tool for the Nation's progress. 


Shri Manoj Kumar recalled the  extraordinary journey of Khadi and village industries, stating that the business turnover of Khadi and village industries was between 25 to 30 billion rupees nine years ago. Today, it has crossed the milestone of 1 lakh and 30 thousand crore rupees. He acknowledged that during the last nine years, over 1 lakh crore rupees have been added to this sector, benefiting the marginalized communities like the poor, dalits, backward class, tribal communities, and others. He highlighted that the KVIC's schemes have played a crucial role in success of this journey. 

 

Shri Manoj Kumar also threw light on various initiatives taken by KVIC, like introducing Khadi denim in coordination with National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), which will soon be available in Khadi stores. Another achievement is  introducing "Lotus Silk," silk fabric made from lotus flower stems by Manipur artisans, which will be available in the market soon. He also talked about the upcoming KVIC Skill Artisan Development Scheme, which will provide training and toolkits to artisans in various service sectors, including electrician, plumber, tea vendor, mobile and AC repairing, and maintenance.

 


Lastly , he emphasized the need to provide more opportunities to rural women by launching the 'Rural Sewing Prosperity Scheme' under the inspiration of Honorable Prime Minister. This scheme will provide training and sewing machines to women, aiming to empower them further


On this occasion, Shri  Shirish Kedare, Member, KVIC Shri  Vineet Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Pankaj Bodkhe, Financial Advisor, Dr. Sanghamitra, Chief Vigilance Officer, Shri Satya Narayan, Joint Chief Executive Officer and a large number of officers and employees of the Commission were present
