  1. FIRST TRANSGENDER MODEL TO SET THE RUNWAY ABLAZE IN INDIA
Recognized for being a pioneer in encouraging conversations around inclusivityLakmé Fashion Week SUMMER/RESORT (SR) 17 introduced the world to India’s first transgender model – Anjali Lama. Her presence created a stir in the international media. In the Indian fashion world too she created a storm  and has since bagged several magazine covers and become the face of several campaigns.

  1. IMG MODELS COMES TO INDIA- LFW’S MODEL KIYARA GOES GLOBAL
In WINTER/FESTIVE (W/F) 17, LFW gave Indian aspiring models a chance to win an exclusive modelling contract with IMG Models international. Kiyara, the winner who hails from a small town in Rajasthan is now set to work with the likes of Gigi Hadid and Miranda Kerr

  1. ‘CRAFT IS COOL’ AT SUSTAINABLE FASHION DAY
Day 2 at Lakmé Fashion Week a dedicated day towards sustainability gave Next Generation designers a chance to collaborate with five young master craftsmen from Paramparik Karigar, an organisation that works with local artisans, to re-imagine craft and  bring forth new ideas onto a mainstream runway.  The show was one of the most talked about in the season and received a standing ovation!

  1. KUTCH ON THE RUNWAY
The LFW SR 17 ramp came to life with delicately designed crafts and textiles when IMG Reliance presented the ‘Artisans of Kutch’ show. It showcased grassroot level artisans living in Kutch as original makers and designers

  1. CELEBRATION OF CURVES AND PLUS SIZES
After a plus sized fashion show in 2016, LFW WF 17 had ace designer Wendell Rodricks in collaboration with a retail brand put forth an eclectic collection. The presentation broke many myths about plus size women and fashion. Color, style and fabrics were interwoven in interesting designs, made to flatter plus sized men and women.

  1. CREATING CONVERSATIONS BEYOND FASHION

LFW WF 17 collaborated with Kranti, an NGO that empowers girls from Mumbai’s Red-light areas and designer Mandeep Nagi and showcased diversity & gender equality through a unique fashion presentation.

  1. FIRST EVER CRUISE SHOW
Set against a dramatic backdrop of the setting sun, LFW SR 17’s opening show with Monisha Jaising, was aboard an international luxury cruise liner for the first time in Indian fashion.

  1. HOMECOMING OF MANISH ARORA
After spending an illustrious decade in Paris, Manish Arora – one of the most celebrated and inspiring contemporary designers in the world, chose LFW WF 17 as a platform for his return to the Indian Fashion Industry to showcase his Paris collection after six long years.

  1. INDIA MAKES HISTORY AT LONDON FASHION WEEK
India was declared as the winner of “Best Country Award” for an exhibit curated by IMG Reliance at the International Fashion Showcase (IFS) during London Fashion Week in February 2017. The designers showcased collections that interpreted the deep heritage of Indian textiles and handlooms to a global audience. For the next London Fashion Week later in the year, some of these designers were chosen to return to London Fashion Week and showcase their collection at the ‘Showroom’

  1. THE RETURN OF THE ORIGINAL SUPERMODEL
Supermodel, TV host and cookbook author Padma Lakshmi returned to India to be the showstopper for veteran designer Tarun Tahiliani.

  1. AN OPERA FOR THE GRAND OPENING NIGHT
Sanjay Garg unveiled a celestial collection that was a celebration of purity, craftsmanship and textile at the exquisite Royal Opera House – Mumbai’s premiere heritage site.

  1. A POWER-PACKED FINALE AT BANDRA FORT
Set outdoors at the Bandra Fort Amphitheatre, the grand finale of LFW SR ‘17 by Anita Dongre had a lush garden as its runway. The theme for the collection 'Alchemy' was 'liquid gold', and was presented through contemporary traditional silhouettes with copious gold accents and delicate surface embroidery. To top it all, the world saw Kareena Kapoor make a public appearance for the first-time post pregnancy.

  1. NOTHING GETS MORE GLAMORUS THAN A MANISH MALHOTRA SHOW
Manish Malhotra personifies all things glamorous. The iconic designer and a fashion powerhouse, Manish Malhotra launched a premiere bespoke men’s wear and women’s collection called ‘Tales of Indulgence’. Superstars Jacqueline Fernandez and Aditya Roy Kapoor took to the runway as showstoppers for Bollywood’s favorite designer while the red carpet was studded with Bollywood stars
